How to get to the Hotel Schweizerhof Basel

By train

Take the train to the station Basel SBB.

The Hotel Schweizerhof is just a two-minute walk away.

By aeroplane

  • EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg: 15 minutes by - Bus no. 50 - to Basel SBB Station
  • Zurich Airport: 1 hour 20 minutes by train to Basel SBB Station
  • Geneva Airport: 3 hours by train to Basel SBB Station

By car

(Some online route planners calculate the route to the Hotel Schweizerhof Basel, Centralbahnplatz 1, 4051 Basel, incorrectly).

Travelling from the north and west (Germany and France)

  • After crossing the border, follow the signs for Basel-Süd/Bern/Lucerne/Zurich.
  • After crossing the Rhine, follow the signs for Basel-Süd/City (exit 5)
  • Continue on Grosspeter exit

Approach from the south (Italy, Gotthard, Zurich, Bern)

  • Basel-City exit > E25
  • Continue on Grosspeter exit

Joint approach from all directions

  • Straight ahead on Grosspeter Strasse > Basel-West/City > follow signs for SBB station
  • At the height of the dark red post office building on the far left, turn into
  • Turn left into Gartenstrasse, following the signs for the SBB train station and the «Schweizerhof».
  • Pass the entrance to the Centralbahn car park on your right.
  • Follow - despite the driving ban - the hotel sign Schweizerhof
  • Turn right into the first side street. > Heumattstrasse
  • At the end of this road, on the left before the traffic lights, is the hotel entrance.

Parking Facilities

We have 5 free parking spaces in front of the hotel, which are allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis and therefore unfortunately cannot be reserved.

Alternatively, you can park at a special rate of CHF 23.00 per 24 hours or part thereof in the nearby Centralbahnparking.

Centralbahnparking Car Park

The entrance to the Centralbahnparking is located at Gartenstrasse 150 (coming from Nauenstrasse).


Please note the following when entering the Centralbahnparking:

  1. Keep in the right-hand lane > towards long-term parking / hotel parking
  2. Main entrance level 2 (not Hotel Victoria) > Take a ticket
  3. Park your vehicle in an empty space on levels 2 or 3
  4. Take your parking ticket with you to the hotel
  5. Before you leave, pay the parking fee at the hotel
  6. Your parking ticket will be validated by the hotel
  7. Check-out: > within 15 minutes of check-out
