Excerpt from the anniversary book ‘Hundert Jahre Hotel Schweizerhof in Basel 1864 - 1964’, written by Gustav Adolf Wanner
The Schweizerhof has remained a family-run business to this day, even if the legal form of a joint-stock company was chosen for it in 1919.
Much has changed since the days when great-grandfather Goetzinger took over the oldest first-class hotel on Basel's Centralbahnplatz; but the motto of serving guests remains as the guiding principle for the will and work of the previous generations and the current management. Faithful to the tradition that characterises the old, yet young-at-heart hotel and that signifies a great responsibility as a precious legacy, but also open-minded about the progress of our time, the family enters the next century of the history of the Schweizerhof with healthy optimism. As always, it will continue to be a place of relaxation and rest for locals and foreigners, as well as a place to stay while travelling in the Basel area.
